The local police in Antwerp chased a car in the Hoboken district on Saturday evening which was fleeing a control after a traffic violation. The police confirmed the facts, initially reported by the Gazet Van Antwerpen. Large sums of cash were thrown from the vehicle during the chase. The police were able to recover several tens of thousands of euros.
The vehicle however managed to elude the police, but during the night a man came to the police saying he was the driver in question. Why he ran away and threw away the cash he was carrying is still under investigation. The police do not exclude that part of the money thrown was picked up by passers-by or residents of the neighborhood.
The man who presented himself to police as the driver of the car will face trial for alleged money laundering offences.
