A loud detonation was heard in the vicinity of Wilrijk and Mortsel, in the Antwerp region, around 3 a.m. Monday. There was then a report of a fire in a restaurant in Wilrijk. “We assume that it is malicious intent and we do not exclude a connection with drug-related violence,” said police spokesman Wouter Bruyns.
The fire destroyed the entire ground floor of the restaurant. A large perimeter has been established. The forensic laboratory and the SEDEE demining service visited the site. “Shortly before the fire report, the police checked a suspicious vehicle. Thanks to the identification of the occupants and the vehicle by the emergency response team, the car was quickly found by the Dutch police.
