Republic of Ireland midfielder Aoibhe Brennan has completed a high-profile transfer from Women’s Premier Division side Bohemians to Women’s Super League club Manchester City, where she will initially feature for their under-21 squad. The 18-year-old midfielder arrives in England following an established run in the League of Ireland, bringing valuable domestic and international experience to her new club.
Brennan’s journey to Manchester City marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Having initially played for Shelbourne before joining Bohemians in 2024, the talented teenager quickly became a central figure for the Dalymount Park side, netting eight goals across 72 appearances. Her consistent performances earned her a nomination for the PFA Ireland Women’s Young Player of the Year Award last season.

Development Pathway and International Recognition
The young midfielder’s rise has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. Republic of Ireland manager Carla Ward has previously spoken publicly about her admiration for Brennan, handing the player a senior squad call-up last April. Although injury ultimately prevented Brennan from earning her first senior cap during a pair of World Cup qualifiers against Poland, she has already proven her leadership by captaining her country at the Under-19 level.
At Manchester City, Brennan will enter a structured development environment. City launched their Next Gen U21 team last year—a side that competed in a 10-team northern edition and finished fifth. Brennan is set to join Izzy Christiansen’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. She will also work closely with Head of Academy Hannah Dingley, who assumed her role following her departure from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) last year.
Ahead of her arrival, Brennan sought advice from familiar faces within the game, speaking with Christiansen, Dingley, and former City player and current Ireland international Tara O’Hanlon. O’Hanlon recently joined newly promoted Women’s Super League 2 side Wolverhampton Wanderers following two injury-interrupted years with Manchester City.

“We are massively proud of her,” Murphy said. “From the club’s perspective, it’s clear what we are trying to do in terms of having young players in the first team and giving them an opportunity to play and develop and progress. From an individual point of view, as a coach and a manager, it’s always brilliant to see the players you have progressing.”
