Having more competition in a market never hurts us consumers. A news console portable Windows is officially launched at the end of the year 2023: the AOKZOE A2. Unlike the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, the two flagship models on the market which feature the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme in their main version, the AOKZOE A2 has the original version of the processor: theAMD Ryzen 7 7840U. The performances will obviously be extremely close, the Z1 Extreme bringing as the only change energy profiles optimized by AMD for its privileged partners.
The newcomer still offers features that are not found in its direct competitors. The first is that the entire range has at least 32 GB of LPDDR5-7500 whereas until now we had to make do with 16 GB of RAM at both ASUS and Lenovo. For pure gaming, 16 GB is more than enough at the moment but, if you had the idea of looking for other uses for your console, perhaps this argument will convince you. Another particularity: the entry-level version, offered at $599, changes the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U from the previous generation. A choice far from absurd since the GPU of the Ryzen 7 6800U has 12 RDNA 2 calculation units which will be more efficient than the 4 RDNA 3 calculation units found in the Ryzen Z1 of the entry-level version of the ROG Ally.
AOKZOE also offers its console with various combinations of M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, up to 4 TB in an uncompromising version of the portable console, also accompanied by 64 GB of RAM! In detail, here are the prices claimed:
- AOKZOE A2 Ryzen 7 6800U 32 Go / 512 Go à 599 $.
- AOKZOE A2 Ryzen 7 7840U 32 Go / 512 Go à 699 $.
- AOKZOE A2 Ryzen 7 7840U 32 Go / 1 To à 759 $.
- AOKZOE A2 Ryzen 7 7840U 32 Go / 2 To à 839 $.
- AOKZOE A2 Ryzen 7 7840U 64 Go / 4 To à 759 $.
The other characteristics are rather common with a 7-inch IPS FHD (1920 x 1080p) screen whose refresh rate is not specified by the brand and which we therefore imagine at 60 Hz. The console is slightly heavier than the ROG Ally with its 649 g, on the other hand its dimensions are a little more compact, both in length (26.5 cm) and in height (10 cm) which can also be an argument in its favor. It also has, something rather rare, a USB-A port in addition to its USB-C.
