At the end of February, the Microsoft started testing the compatibility of the application Link to Mobile as iOS. The app brings some smartphone features, such as messaging and calls, to Windows, but was only compatible with Android devices until then and had finally been expanded to Apple devices, although it was still only available to users of the Insider testing program.

Today, the company announced that iOS support is rolling out to all users in 39 languages and 85 different markets. The rest of users should have access to the novelty in mid-May, according to Microsoft. So, just update the Bind to Cellular app and be running Windows 11 on the computer — as well as iOS 14 or higher on the iPhone — to take advantage of the feature.

It is worth remembering that Microsoft had to circumvent the limitations imposed by Apple with iOS to make the app compatible with iPhones. Instead of integrating the device with Windows through an application, the system uses Bluetooth to display messages and calls from the smartphone, just like the media systems found in vehicles.

Also, unlike Android devices, it is not possible to run smartphone apps on the PC. The feature is quite limited, displaying only your messages (including iMessages), notifications and contacts, in addition to allowing you to make and receive calls from your computer. There is also no support for iPads yet.

It is not possible, however, to respond to group chats or send any type of media. The past history of messages is also not displayed and the system cannot differentiate between SMS messagesShort message serviceor short message service.”>1 from those sent by Apple’s system. In short, the app works by intercepting notifications via Bluetooth to display the messages on Windows.

To use Link to Cell Phone, just choose the iPhone option on the configuration screen, scan a QR code with the device and check if the confirmation code displayed on the iPhone is the same as the one being shown on the computer. Several permissions need to be accepted, in particular shared notifications, for the feature to work.
