The music streaming service has introduced new concert discovery features on Apple Maps y Apple Musicaccording to an announcement last Tuesday, May 16.

With these new features, Apple Music seeks to enhance the live music experience for fans and connect them with their favorite artists.

The company claims its ‘global team of expert curators’ have created more than 40 new ‘Guides’, each hand-selecting venues to experience live music in cities around the world.

These guides are accessible in Maps and allow fans to browse upcoming shows directly from the app via Shazam’s concert discovery module.

The music recognition app launched the new feature in March 2022, four years after being acquired by Apple.

Shazam’s concert discovery feature provides information about concerts and tickets on sale for upcoming shows nearby. This function uses concert information from Bandsintownan event recommendation platform, boasting 77 million registered fans and 570,000 registered artists.

The guides of Apple Music are now available at apple.co/MusicVenues and featured cities include Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City and San Francisco in North America; Berlin, London, Paris and Vienna in Europe; Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney in the Asia-Pacific region; and Mexico City in Latin America.

In addition, Apple Music also launched a new space called ‘Set Lists’which offers a selection of major tours, allowing fans to listen to concert set lists and learn about the productions.

Available now at apple.co/setlists, the feature allows fans to browse upcoming artists’ shows in their area by launching Shazam’s concert discovery module, which also uses concert information from Bandsintown.

These new features mark Apple’s latest move into the live music space. Last week, Apple Music revealed that its ‘Apple Music Live Performance Series’ would be back for its second season starting May 10.

Season two kicked off with an exclusive performance from the superstar Ed Sheeran at London’s Eventim Apollo to present their new album, – (pronounced “subtract”), for the first time with a 12-piece band that included The National’s Aaron Dessner.

The introduction of these new features increases Apple Music’s competition with Spotify. The latter launched virtual concert charts in September 2020 in partnership with Songkickthe concert discovery app acquired by Warner Music Group in 2017.

Two years later, Spotify began testing direct sales of concert tickets through a new site called ‘Spotify Tickets‘.

The competition between Spotify and Apple Music in the live events space highlights the growing importance of the live music industry post-pandemic.

Events giant Live Nation recently reported a 73% increase in first quarter revenue compared to a year ago, reaching $3.1 billion, while Ticketmaster saw a 43% increase in revenue compared to the previous year. last year, reaching $677.7 million, as ticket sales reached 145 million.
