Apple has increased its total U.S. financial commitment to $600 billion over four years, anchored by the launch of the American Manufacturing Program (AMP) to expand domestic silicon supply chains, advanced glass production, and hardware component engineering across multiple states.
Apple’s announcement builds directly on prior domestic expansions, pushing its four-year commitment to $600 billion. According to the official press release from Apple, this surge features a fresh $100 billion commitment aimed at bringing critical component manufacturing to the U.S.
Building an End-to-End Silicon and Glass Pipeline Stateside
The engineering scope here goes well beyond basic assembly. Apple is actively cementing an end-to-end silicon supply chain inside U.S. borders. The initiative is on track to produce more than 19 billion chips for Apple products in 2025. Much of this relies on partnerships like the TSMC fabrication plant in Arizona, which serves as a cornerstone for advanced semiconductor lithography on American soil, with Apple operating as its first and largest customer.
Hardware durability is also getting a localized overhaul. Through an expanded multiyear partnership with Corning, Apple is helping fund the world’s largest and most advanced smartphone glass production line in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. According to Apple’s documentation, this facility will soon ensure that every iPhone and Apple Watch sold around the world will be built with Kentucky-made cover glass. The collaboration also establishes a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center in Kentucky.

Securing the Component Base from Lasers to Rare Earths
Apple’s AMP framework targets these exact pinch points. In Sherman, Texas, Coherent continues its long-standing production of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). These semiconductor lasers drive facial recognition systems and optical sensors across iPhones and iPads worldwide.

Apple has formalized agreements with MP Materials, securing domestic rare earth magnets produced at their Independence facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Alongside this, the companies are constructing a cutting-edge rare earth recycling line in Mountain Pass, California.
Direct Job Creation and Geographic Footprint
Over the next four years, Apple plans to directly hire 20,000 people in the U.S. The vast majority of these roles will focus on R&D, silicon engineering, software development, and AI and machine learning.
This adds to an existing ecosystem where Apple already supports more than 450,000 jobs through thousands of suppliers and operational partners across all 50 states. Significant operational expansions are currently running through Arizona, California, Iowa, Kentucky, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Utah. Crucially, the economic impact loops back globally: roughly two-thirds of the components manufactured through these U.S. partnerships are exported to customers outside the U.S.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, framed the overarching strategy around these domestic partnerships, noting in the corporate release that the effort involves new and expanded work with 10 companies producing components for global consumption.
