This new feature is possible thanks to the new dual-core accelerometer capable of sensing g-force measurements up to 256 g and to the new wide dynamic range gyroscope, that are added to other previous componentssuch as the barometer, which can now detect changes in pressure in the cabin, the GPS, which provides additional information when the speed varies, and the microphone capable of recognizing the loud noises typical of serious traffic accidents, according to Apple.
The entire system described above will allow users to interact with the Apple Watch if they are wearing it, or with the iPhone otherwise. At the moment of coalition, the devices react in the following way:
Compatible iPhone or Apple Watch displays an alert and sounds an alarm. If a user can, they can call emergency services by sliding the Emergency Call slider on the iPhone or Apple Watch, or dismiss the alert. If they don’t respond to the alert after 10 seconds, the device starts another 10-second countdown. In the absence of a response, the device calls the emergency services.
