Apple hasn’t forgotten the Apple Remote Desktop app, updated for macOS Sonoma

Apple Remote Desktop (€89.99) may not have received any love from Apple for many years, but that’s no reason to abandon this app responsible for simplifying remote Mac control. The proof is that it has just received an update that allows it to support macOS Sonoma. We can even salute the effort, this year less than a month passed between the release of the final version of macOS 14 and the release of this update!

The screenshots from the Mac App Store still have the default macOS Monterey wallpaper, but hey, you’re not going to be picky anyway (Apple image).

It should be noted that Apple Remote Desktop has been in maintenance mode for years. The last significant update dates back to February 2017 and once more, this version 3.9 did not bring any major new features, especially bug fixes. Since then, there’s a new version every year to handle the latest macOS update and that’s regarding it. There must be enough users remaining to justify this annual investment, but not enough to invest any additional time.

Anyway, if you’re using Apple Remote Desktop, you’ll be able to grab version 3.9.7 from the Mac App Store. True to form, Apple does not bother with backward compatibility and this version requires macOS 13.6 at least. For €89.99, you will still be entitled to an interface translated into French, that’s already it.
