Apple increases item limit in Search to 32; AirPods count as 2 items

By means of a support page updated yesterday (for now, only on American version), a Apple confirmed that it is now possible to add up to 32 items in the app Look for (Find My); previously the limit was 16.

The interesting thing is that the AirPods first, second or third generation and first generation Pros count as two items, while the second-gen Pro counts as three. The Max model, however, only counts as one item.

According to MacRumorsthe change in this limit occurred with iOS/iPadOS 16. However, only now has Apple updated the support page relating to the process of adding items to Search with the most up-to-date information, sharing it in a more open way.

The increase is very welcome, especially for users who have AirPods Pro models, which take up more than one space in the limit. With the greater popularity of AirTags and/or having several items compatible with Search, it is easier to get close to the limit, so the increase makes this ceiling considerably more flexible.

You can add items like AirTags, AirPods, some Beats headphones, and other network-compatible trackers to Find My Search Find My from Apple, like those from Chipolo. There are also other types of devices and accessories that work with the system, such as mugs and even backpacks.

Added items can be tracked by the app, showing their location on the map on both the iPhone, Mac and iPad. With some devices, such as second-generation AirPods Pro and AirTags, there is an option in the app for the accessories to play a sound pattern to make them easier to find when lost, among other features.
