Apple Music bug causes unknown playlists to appear in library

Several users on Reddit have been reporting a weird and potentially troubling bug in Apple Music. They told that other people’s playlists are appearing randomly in their libraries, raising serious privacy concerns.

According to MacRumorsuser adh1003 compiled multiple complaints on the social network about the same case — or even worse ones, such as playlists that were merged with existing ones, others that disappeared or were replaced by unknown ones.

In a post, the user published an image with the playlist “Spanish”with no music in it, that he would never have created but sprouted in his library.

In the aforementioned post, there are some reports of unknown playlists, with the title in Spanish, but which contained songs from their own library. The biggest concern is the lack of stability of the playlists and the library itself. Thus, adh1003 advises everyone to export playlists in XML format from macOS, so as not to run the risk of losing the lists.

While some users have expressed concern about their Apple account being hacked, the most likely issue appears to be related to something on Apple’s own iCloud server. Some users claimed that it was enough to turn off and on again the synchronization with iCloud and everything was back to normal, although others continued with the problem even after this procedure.

While some claim that instability in playlists has been happening forever, the flurry of comments date back to mid-February and appear to be related to the release of iOS 16.3.1.

The issue is similar to an earlier iCloud bug where strange images and videos would appear in some users’ photo libraries. Still, at least so far, no one has been able to get a response from Apple support.

Apple Music has a catalog of more than 100 million songs and 30,000 playlists — many of them supporting Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos) and in very high definition, with audio Lossless. In Brazil, there are three types of subscription: University (BRL 11.90/month), Individual (BRL 21.90/month) is Familiar (BRL 34.90/month). If you are not a subscriber, you can try the service for free for one month. It is also part of the company’s Apple One subscription package.
