Apple Pencil with USB-C gets its first firmware update

2023-11-14 22:20:46

A Apple released today the first firmware update for the Apple Pencil com USB-Can accessory announced this year following the company practically “killed” the Lightning connector.

As observed by user @aaronp613from Twitter X, the new version of the Apple Pencil firmware is 35347.35347.16 and has 10M5164 as its build number.

A curious fact is that the firmware in question identifies the accessory as “Apple Pencil Gen 3”, and until then the company had only publicly referred to it as “Apple Pencil (USB-C)”. But then, for those who were in doubt, this is the third generation of the pencil.

So far, there are no public details regarding the update, so we’re only expected to get stability improvements and bug fixes.

Like other accessories (such as the Siri Remote and AirTags), it is not possible to update the Apple Pencil manually, with the process happening completely automatically while it is connected to the iPad.
