Apple sets its commission at 27% for apps that bypass its payment system

Apple continues to toy with developers’ nerves. Forced by the Dutch competition authority to let dating apps use payment systems other than its own on iPhones, the American giant clarified in a blog post on Friday how it intended to comply. The breach that Apple opens in the barriers of its App Store is narrow. Some would say impractical.

Only dating “apps” are affected and only in the Netherlands. Developers who would like to circumvent Apple’s payment system will therefore have to develop a version dedicated to the small country of 18 million inhabitants. Only in this local app will they be able to use a third-party payment system or include a link to their website for users to make purchases there.
