Apparently, the year 2023 was very fruitful for the Apple in the smartphone market. In addition to taking the lead in the global market, the Cupertino giant also reached the top of the ranking with the largest manufacturers in the world. China — one of the most important markets for the company.
According to IDC dataApple closed the year 2023 with a market share of 17,3% — enough to give it a lead, even though it fell -2.2% year-on-year. This, it is worth mentioning, is the first time that the company has even taken the lead in the Chinese smartphone market.
Taking out the Apple, the Top 5 of the research firm is dominated by local brands. In second place, for example, we have Honor, which ended last year very close to the iPhone manufacturer with a market share of 17,1% (-10.3%). Soon after, we have OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi, with 16,7% (-9,4%), 16,5% (-15,5%) e 13,2% (-8.5%), respectively.
Apple was also a leader in the last quarter of 2023 which, in turn, also recorded growth of 1,2% (approximately 73.6 million units) — the first in a long time, it must be said. More specifically, the Cupertino giant registered a market share of exact 20% (-2,1%).
Soon after, we have Honor, with 16,8% (-0.9%), live, with 15,7% (-8,4%), a Huawei, com 13,9% (+36.2%) and to OPPO, com 13,7% (-16.1%). The penultimate, in fact, was the highlight of the time, having returned to a Top 5 of IDC after more than years — which indicates a good recovery after the blow caused by the sanctions against the company promoted by the United States government.
Research analyst Arthur Guo, from IDC, highlighted Apple’s performance in China:
