Apple has officially entered the foldable phone market with the iPhone Duo, an eSIM-only device starting at $1,999 for 256GB of storage. Arriving more than seven years after Samsung’s first foldable, the Duo features a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal panel powered by the A20 Pro chip, launching for preorders on October 16.
Conquering the Foldable Crease With Nano-Texture Glass

Underneath that topmost layer lies a complex multilayer stack. Custom adhesives allow the polymer, glass, and OLED sheets to glide over each other dynamically when the titanium-framed device is folded or unfolded. Chief hardware officer Johny Srouji noted that the engineering team explicitly targeted a “perceptually flat” finish to eliminate the plastic-like feel common in rival hardware. While your fingertip can still detect a subtle contour change across the hinge line, the visual disruption is virtually nonexistent under normal lighting conditions.
A 2nm A20 Pro Processor and Massive Vapor Chamber
Apple’s entry operates on the 2nm, six-core A20 Pro system-on-a-chip, paired with the C2 modem as reported by The Verge. Sribalan Santhanam, VP of Apple’s silicon engineering group, highlighted that the silicon includes two desktop-class super cores alongside four performance cores, a seven-core GPU, and a 32-core NPU split into dual neural engines.
Apple integrated a vapor chamber roughly three times the size of previous generations. During hands-on gaming tests running console-level titles, this thermal architecture prevented noticeable throttling during extended screen transitions between the outer 5.4-inch cover and the expansive 7.6-inch inner display.
Titanium Build, Side Touch ID, and IP68 Water Resistance
Measuring 5.2mm thick when open and 11.3mm when shut, the titanium-framed iPhone Duo is slightly thicker than several competing Android foldables, yet it manages an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The outer screen features Ceramic Shield 2 protection, while the rear panel utilizes toughened Ceramic Shield glass.
Biometrics shift away from traditional Face ID due to hardware constraints. Instead, Apple integrated Touch ID directly into the side power button, alongside Apple Watch proximity unlocking support. Camera specifications lean on a dual 48-megapixel rear sensor array, borrowing the ultrawide camera from the iPhone 18 Pro lineup while adding software-driven features like Smart Take and simultaneous dual-side FaceTime calls.
Pricing, Preorders, and Market Arrival
Preorders for the iPhone Duo begin on October 16, with retail availability slated for October 23 at a base price of $1,999.
