Apple unveils its new iPhone for less than 550 euros

The new iPhone SE will feature the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13.

It was in the air, it’s now official. Apple presented this Tuesday evening, during its Peek Performance conference, the third generation iPhone SE.

As expected, this new “Special Edition” iPhone will run on the A15 Bionic SoC. A chip that we had already seen in the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro and which notably allows a considerable gain in power and battery. Concretely, the iPhone SE will offer up to two hours of video playback more than the iPhone 8. It can notably be recharged with a wireless charger while the 20W wired charge will allow, according to Apple, to reach the 50% charge in just 30 minutes.

In terms of performance, the 3rd generation iPhone SE will be as efficient as the iPhones released last September. Apple also specifies that it will be 1.8x faster than the iPhone 8. In terms of graphics performance, the iPhone SE 3 and its A15 Bionic chip are 1.2x faster than the second generation which included the A13 and 5x faster.

What will mainly distinguish this new iPhone SE from its predecessors is its ability to support the 5G network, thus allowing faster downloads on the cellular network and smoother streaming broadcasts.

On the other hand, we should not expect a major revolution in terms of its design since the 3rd generation iPhone SE is identical to the previous model. The Home button decked out with Touch ID is back and the screen is still not borderless. It will therefore be necessary to wait before having Face ID and a notch on an iPhone SE.

The rear camera will be 12MP and Apple promises the same “Photographic Styles” system, allowing you to configure the look of the photos. Portrait effects are also making their debut.

The new iPhone SE will be available for pre-order this Friday, and on sale March 18, in three colors: Midnight, Starlight and (PRODUCT) RED.

The iPhone SE 5G will be offered at:

  • €529 for the 64GB model
  • €579 for the 128GB model
  • €699 for the 256GB model
