After acquiring an area and establishing a temporary office in Research Triangle Park (RTP), in North Carolina (United States), Apple is looking to expand its activities there. Second documents sent for approval at the end of last month, the company plans to build an office with an area of more than 30,000 square meters.

In total, will be more than 250.000m² in offices, parks and accessory buildings. The request follows another made last year involving environmental permits, as there are riparian forests and sediment control measures that are impacted by the project. It is necessary, as we can imagine, to guarantee that the areas will be protected.

According to WRAL Tech Wire, an Apple lawyer would have asked the state authorities to keep the company’s plans confidential, which does not seem to have worked very well. According to the documents, the building should have between six and eight floors; Apple began seeking approval for the project from Wake County Agencies in August 2022.

To get an idea of the size of the office, it is equivalent to the area of about two supermarkets. It is worth remembering that Apple obtained an incentive of approximately US$1.2 billion from the state, considering that the campus should employ 3,000 people, in addition to moving the local economy with these employees and with the construction itself.

RTP is the largest research park in the US, with an area of over 700,000m², where more than 300 companies are present and where more than 65,000 people work. Apple, therefore, is going to where several other companies are already, with plans to invest since 2021 more than US$ 1 billion in the campus, where new products can be developed, among other activities.
