Apple will withdraw certain connected watches from sale in the United States as a precautionary measure, the American company announced on Monday. The move follows a lost patent dispute with medical company Masimo over the use of technology to measure blood oxygen levels.

Medical technology company Masimo accuses Apple of using its patented technology to measure blood oxygen levels without a license. The company won its ITC case in October, which restricted imports of the affected Apple Watch models.

From December 21, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will no longer be available for sale online in the United States. They will also disappear from physical stores from December 24.

Precautionary measure before call

Apple explains that this is a precautionary measure, because the deadline for US President Joe Biden to use his veto power to overturn the decision of the US trade authority ITC expires on December 25.

Apple says it does not agree with the ITC’s decision and says it is studying different ways to make connected watches available to consumers.

The decision has no impact on sales of the watches concerned in Belgium. And there is no effect to deplore at the moment on the stock market for the American giant.
