Apple has so far steered clear of the nascent market for foldable devices. But that doesn’t mean Cupertino isn’t actively considering launching a device with a foldable display, or at least that’s what the latest rumors say.

Speculation about Apple releasing a device with a foldable display has been relatively muted for some time. The company was obviously not very interested in this new technology. Now, famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed through a tweet that Apple is “actively testing” a 9-inch foldable display.
The screen is mounted on an experimental device that is used to refine technologies that will eventually find their way into Apple products. According to Kuo, the company will first target large and medium-sized devices before materializing a foldable iPhone. This is in line with other rumors that LG is joining efforts to develop iPads and MacBooks with foldable displays.
Apple foldable devices from 2025?
It’s unclear when we’ll see these devices, as the leakers have kept shifting their estimates. The daily tech The Elec claimed that Apple is working with LG Display to develop a foldable OLED panel for tablets and laptops.
According to the same source, LG is going to supply 17-inch foldable 4K OLED panels to HP as early as this year, so the idea of a foldable MacBook might be closer than we thought. Kuo still makes a guarded estimate that we’ll see an Apple foldable device in 2025.
Another analyst, display expert Ross Young, appears to be lining up with the launch year of an Apple foldable device, which has been delayed since initial predictions pointed to a 2023 or 2024 launch.
