Particularly, ships will remain tied up in the ports of the whole country, because the Panhellenic Maritime Federation decided to participate in the 24-hour strike. Public sector workers also participate, according to the decisions taken by the primary unions and the Federations. At the same time, among the unions that decided to participate in the strike is RESPONSE who represents them doctors in public hospitals of Athens and Piraeus.
Meanwhile, she announced her participation in the strike Panhellenic Railway Federation with the result that on Wednesday none of its routes will take place Hellenic Trainincluding Suburban Athena’s.
Strike 17 April: Bus stoppage on Wednesday – What times will they run?
With work attitudes decided to participate in the 24-hour strike declared by GSEE, the workers of OASA. Particularly, city buses in Athens are expected to run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. The work stoppage will last from the start of the shift until 9:00 and from 21:00 until the end of the shift.
It is noted that the restoration of traffic is expected after 10:00, while the last routes will depart from 20:00 or earlier. Buses are normally expected to run on the OASA lines which have been taken over by KTEL.
The landscape regarding the taxi strike on April 17 is still murky. In the last 24 hours, the trade unions have emphasized that they will participate in the strike with a work stoppage, but so far the exact hours that the taxis will not serve on Wednesday have not been announced.
However, the trade unionists call on the taxi drivers to participate in the march at 10 am on Wednesday.
Metro, Electric and Railway workers have announced their participation in the strike, while announcements are awaited on how the tram will move.
Hellenic Train Modifications
In particular, as announced by Hellenic Train, due to the 24-hour strike mobilization announced by G.S.E.E., in which the Panhellenic Federation of Railways (P.O.S.) also participates, the Wednesday, April 17, 2024, there will be suspensions and modifications to routes throughout the network, including the Suburban.
However, for the best possible service to the passenger public, Hellenic Train will operate the following routes with security personnel:

- In the section Athens – Chalkida – Athens: 1532,1535,1550,1553,2530 and 2533
Also, due to the strike, the following itineraries are modified:
In the Piraeus-Kiato-Piraeus section:
On Tuesday 16.04.2024 trains 2302 and 2304 will run their route from Piraeus to Ano Liosia by train and in the Ano Liosia – Kiato section they will be replaced by buses.
In the Athens-Chalkida-Athens section:
On Tuesday 16.04.2024 train 2534 will run from Athens to Afidnai by train and in the Afidnai – Chalkida section it will be replaced by a bus. Also, train 2539 in the Chalkida – Oinoi section will be replaced by a bus.
The requests
POS – MST requests immediate recruitment of permanent staff with stable work, restoration of free negotiations of Collective Labor Agreements, wage increases to deal with the crisis and the cost of living, re-operation of the railway network throughout Greece, upgrading of rolling stock, full restoration of the infrastructures – facilities affected by the disasters (e.g. Volos Factory) and better working conditions everywhere.
Workers at OASTH are on strike
50 buses and security personnel will operate the urban transport of Thessaloniki on Wednesday, due to the 24-hour strike. The itineraries of the specially equipped vehicles for the service of Persons with Disabilities will be carried out normally, as well as the N1 night line that runs the KTEL – Night Airport route.
Three-hour work stoppages will be held by OLME.
It is noted that the journalists are going on a 24-hour strike tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16, one day before the general nationwide strike of the GSEE, in order to broadcast the strike movements.
At 9:30 am pre-gatherings have been set for the strike gathering at Syntagma, Wednesday, April 17, and have been set at the following points:
– Kaningos Square: Federations, Unions and Committees of Workers’ Struggle in the private sector.
–Omonia: Federation of Craftsmen Associations of Attica, Unions and Associations of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants, Federation of Women of Greece, Women’s Associations and Groups, Mass bodies of the municipalities of Attica.
–Propylaia: Federations and Unions of public sector workers, Student Associations, Vocational Training Associations
The pensioners’ federations and unions have a meeting at 9 am outside the State Council building and from there they will march to the strike meeting at the Constitution.
The shipping unions PEMEN, “STEFENSON” and PEEMAGEN are organizing a strike gathering at 5.30 in the morning at ISAP in Piraeus.
The accountants decided to go on strike on April 17
The Panhellenic Federation of Accountants has decided on strike action and it will participate in its turn in the GSEE strike on April 17th and also on May 1st.
In his announcement they mention, among other things: The great strike on February 28 expressed the generalized indignation that exists in our homes, but also the anger at the attempt to cover up the responsibilities that all the bourgeois parties, the ND, SYRIZA, PASOK for the crime in Tempe. He sent a competitive message to employers and the government, that our lives are worth living! That we do not tolerate sacrificing the needs of the workers, the youth, the people, for the profits of the business groups!
We continue with even greater momentum the escalation of the fight in every workplace of the sector. We are preparing the nationwide – labor strikes on April 17 and May 1.

The Board of Directors of POL calls on all its member unions, all workers in the sector to take into their own hands the cause of the success of the nationwide general strike in April 17 and May 1 . To issue announcements, to organize meetings and assemblies in workplaces for the success of the strike, to set up union and strike committees.
EINAP is on a 24-hour strike on April 17
EINAP, which covers the hospital doctors of Athens and Piraeus, has announced its participation in the 24-hour nationwide strike announced by GSEE for April 17.
In the relevant announcement it states that: “The EINAP Board of Directors announces a 24-hour strike on 04/17/24, the day of the general strike of private sector workers’ unions. We claim:
To stop the operation of the afternoon surgeries.
Doubling wages.
Doubling staff, permanent contract employees.
Doubling hospital funding.
Public and free health for all.
We call on ADEDY and OENGE to declare a 24-hour strike on 04/17/24″.
OLME: Three-hour work stoppages
The presidents of ELME unanimously decided to continue the strike and teachers’ abstention from the evaluation, at the General Assembly, which took place on 30/3 in Athens, following a relevant proposal by the Board of OLME.
Specifically, from today, April 1st until April 26th, there will be three-hour work stoppages, either in the first or second shift of teachers, as a reaction to the presence of an evaluator. In addition, they announce the filing of a new out-of-court motion to declare a strike-abstention from the evaluation of all Secondary teachers.
It is also noted that today, the Plenary Meeting of the Presidents of the Primary Education Teachers’ Associations has been scheduled, in order to ask the IOE to re-proclaim a strike-abstention against the evaluation.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, Deputy Minister Zetta Makri is going to meet the Boards of the IOE at 11.30 and the OLME at 13.00. It is recalled that, following a lawsuit filed by the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the teachers’ strike-abstention from the evaluation was declared illegal by the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Athens on March 18, 2024.
The specific mobilization, which was the product of a decision by the OLME, was not declared abusive by the court, since as it ruled, there is no need to examine the relevant reasons for abuse.
Strike on May 21 by ADEDY
The realization of a 24-hour pan-Hellenic strike on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, its General Council decided ADEDY at the meeting, which took place on 2 April 2024.
ADEDY’s requests
As stated in the relevant announcement of ADEDY, the contentious framework is as follows:
“- Horizontal increase of 10% in the salaries of the employees in the State, in order to deal elementary with accuracy and inflation.
- Restoring Gifts.
- Collective agreements on wages.
- Removal of the 2016–2017 biennium wage freeze.
- Abolition of the 2% unemployment levy.
- Increase of the tax-free allowance to 12,000 euros.
- Increase in unhealthy work allowance.
- Immediate staffing with permanent employees of all critical public bodies (health, education, social services, insurance, etc.) and upgrading of all necessary infrastructure”.
At the same time, the General Council of ADEDY decided to hold, in the next period, meetings and General Assemblies throughout the country, with the aim on the one hand of informing the colleagues and on the other hand of the better organization of the strike mobilization.
Also, the General Council of ADEDY decided the following:
“- Strike mobilization on Labor Day (May 1, 2024).
- The support of the mobilization of health workers (POEDIN-OENGE) on May 16, 2024.
- The support of the mobilizations of the educational federations that are taking place during this time with the strike-abstention from the evaluation.
- The support of the dismissed trade unionist, D. Antoniou, with a protest rally on Friday, April 5 at the E.K.P.A.”
