NAPA, Calif. — Google’s April Kyle Nassi has been appointed to the Linux Foundation Board of Directors, the organizations announced Tuesday, as Google reaffirmed its Platinum membership in the open source technology consortium.
Nassi, Manager of the Google Open Source Programs Office, will represent Google on the board, according to a press release. The appointment coincides with Google’s recommitment as a Platinum Member, a tier signifying substantial financial and collaborative support for the Linux Foundation’s wide-ranging projects.
“Google’s continued support as a Platinum Member underscores their dedication to development and innovation in the open source ecosystem,” said Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation. “We’re proud to work with Google, sustaining projects that are critical to global infrastructure and supporting the growth of emerging open source software and standards.”
Google’s involvement with the Linux Foundation spans numerous initiatives, including active participation in 39 Foundations under its umbrella, such as the Agentic AI Foundation and the PyTorch Foundation. The company was an early backer of Kubernetes, contributing the technology to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) in 2016, and maintains membership in the CHIPS Alliance Fund, the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), and the OpenChain Project.
Nassi emphasized the importance of open source to Google’s broader innovation strategy. “Open source helps drive global innovation, and Google remains committed to ensuring that open source communities and technologies stay strong and secure,” she said. “Renewing our Platinum membership is about more than just supporting this important Foundation; it’s about taking a more active leadership role in the projects that define our industry – from Kubernetes to agentic AI. I’m looking forward to joining the Board of Directors and helping drive the standards and collaboration that will power the next era of digital technology.”
The Linux Foundation currently boasts nearly 2,000 members, with other Platinum Members including Ericsson, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Huawei, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm, IBM/Red Hat and Samsung. The Foundation oversees projects critical to global infrastructure, including Linux, Kubernetes, OpenChain, OpenSearch, OpenSSF, OpenStack, PyTorch, RISC-V, and Zephyr.
April Kyle Nassi is also a Cloud Native Ambassadors (CNA), according to her LinkedIn profile. She is based in San Mateo, California.
The eBPF Foundation lists Nassi as a board member representing Google, alongside Bill Mulligan of Isovalent, Sterling Hughes of Meta, and Anjali Kanak of Netflix.
