Saudi Aramco and Total Energy have awarded engineering, procurement and construction contracts for the $11 billion Admiral complex, according to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA.
The Amiral complex is a future global petrochemical expansion facility located within the SATORP refinery in the Kingdom.
The award of engineering, procurement and construction contracts for the main processing units and associated facilities marks the start of construction work on the joint petrochemical expansion, following the final investment decision in December 2022.

The new complex, which will be integrated with the SATORP refinery in Jubail, aims to house one of the largest mixed feed crackers in the Persian Gulf region, with a production capacity of 1,650 million tons per year of ethylene and other industrial gases.
$4 billion additional investment
The expansion is likely to attract more than $4 billion in additional investment in a variety of industrial sectors including carbon fiber, lubricants, drilling fluids, detergents, food additives, auto parts and tires.
The new expansion is expected to create about 7,000 direct and indirect local jobs.
The expansion project in SATORP is the latest in a long history of cooperation for nearly half a century between the two companies, according to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Aramco, Eng. Amin bin Hassan Al-Nasser, who expected the project to be built on the strengths of the complex. SATORP, and contributes significantly to adding value to the refining, chemicals and marketing system in the Kingdom and the world, especially the goal of converting liquids into chemicals.

A contract has been awarded to Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. for the construction of a mixed feed cracker and utilities, with a capacity of 1,650 ktpa of ethylene, related industrial gases, utilities, flares and connected systems that support the main beams within the facilities.
