The driver of the truck that collided with a train at a level crossing in Ardoye on Tuesday had not respected the red lights, the Bruges section of the West Flanders prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday. “The barrier then fell on the truck,” explained the prosecution. “The trucker’s condition is stable, but still critical.”
Rail network manager Infrabel had previously indicated that the level crossing was functioning normally. Earlier on Wednesday, the damaged truck was evacuated and the train was towed in two parts. Repairs to the line will likely continue this weekend.
