How much does it cost to get tested? This question, which some had not asked for several months, is again topical as the Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise again in France. The number of cases began to increase again with the arrival of the Eris variant.
The organization of screening has changed a lot in France since the start of the pandemic. While Health Insurance paid 100% for the screening of each person, faced with the lull, the government ended in March 2023 the full reimbursement of antigen and PCR tests, recalls Capital.
Partial reimbursement by social security
The rule that applies today is the same for antigenic tests, carried out in pharmacies, and PCR tests which are carried out in medical analysis laboratories. Social Security covers 70% of the screening and the patient’s mutual fund – if there is one – covers the remaining 30%, with or without a prescription.
Self-tests are still sold in pharmacies and now cost 3.35 euros per unit. They are not subject to any refund. It should be noted that pharmacists now give the results of the antigen test to patients themselves, the SIDEP platform having ceased to operate.
Exceptions always exist, notes Capital. Health Insurance still reimburses 100% for anti-Covid screening for people with long-term illness (ALD), people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, professionals in the health sector, minors and people subject to collective screening.
