The Arequipa – La Joya highway is going through a new difficulty that may cause more delays. The company supervising the work, JNR Consultores SA, terminated the contract with the Regional Government of Arequipa alleging non-compliance with payments.
The contractor terminated the agreement on March 22. The fact was made known to the executing consortium La Joya II, Viral newspaper reported.
The company argued a breach of service payments since September 20, 2022. A situation that has not been denied by the GRA.

However, the general manager of the GRA, Leonidas Zavala Lazo, stated on Tuesday that the entity will enter into a conciliation process with JNR Consultores to solve the problem.
According to the official, the Region observed three payments to the company for a value of just over 1 million soles because it has not yet been determined whether they are extensions or additional ones.
“We are going to talk with the company to be able to enter into a conciliation process and see that the work can continue.Zavala said.
Meanwhile, work will have to be suspended for a few days.added the general manager.
Currently, the assembly of the arches of the Arequipa – La Joya bridge was being carried out, the completion of which is scheduled for August. According to the official, all this first component of the project would still be finished the following year.
But despite the completion of the assembly of the entire bridge, the work will not be complete if the other components are not finished: viaducts, the twin tunnels and the road interchanges that finally connect Arequipa with La Joya.
For which, the Region seeks to prepare the final files and ensure the investment budget. As long as that happens, the management intends to put the bridge into operation the following year with an auxiliary road that reaches the Panamericana Sur. But first, they will have to overcome this new inconvenience.
