The Buenos Aires police detained a Brazilian citizen who pointed a gun at Argentina’s vice president, Christina Fernandez de Kirchner. The news was reported by the news agency Buenos Aires Times, citing Argentine Minister of Security Anibal Fernandez. Fernando Sabak Montiel, 35 years old, was taken into custody by the police.

The incident happened when Cristina Fernandez arrived at her apartment in Recoleta, Buenos Aires and was greeting people. Suddenly, a man pointed a gun at the vice president. He drew his gun but did not fire. The video of the incident is now going viral.

The Buenos Aires Times reported that investigators have begun trying to determine whether Montiel was trying to shoot him or whether it was an accident. Argentine President Alberto Fernandez reacted to the incident. ‘Christina is alive. He said there were five bullets in the gun and he did not fire.

Fernandez was among the crowd protesting the trial of Christina Fernandez. Cristina is on trial in a case related to public works contracts awarded in her constituency of Santa Cruz province in Patagonia. Hundreds of protesters have been protesting in the streets of Argentina’s Juncal and Uruguay for more than a week, demanding a halt to the trial.

Prosecutors are seeking 12 years in prison and a lifetime ban from politics. Argentina is in a state of tension as the trial against the vice president continues. The Vice President is facing trial in five more cases. She was acquitted in several cases.
