The Argentine embassy in Santiago released a statement detailing that Bullrich had a telephone conversation with his Chilean counterpart to clarify his statements.

“The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrichheld a telephone conversation with the Minister of the Interior and Public Security of Chile, Carolina Tohá, for the purpose of conveying his apologies regarding his recent statements regarding the presence of Hezbollah in IquiqueChile,” says the statement.

“Minister Bullrich clarified that these observations were made in the context of an analysis of the regional situation, within the framework of the responsibilities inherent to her position, and not with the intention of generating fear or alarm in Chile,” she adds.

Finally, the Argentine government reaffirmed its commitment “to strengthening relations and security cooperation with our sister nation.”

“To this end, Minister Bullrich will hold a meeting next week in that country with her Security counterpart, Minister Tohá,” the statement concludes.

Let us remember that in an interview with All Newsthe Minister of Security of Argentina assured that Hezbollah is present on the border between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, adding that “recently” its presence has been reported in Iquique, Tarapacá region.

Her statements quickly motivated the Chilean response, where Minister Tohá flatly rejected that there were threats of Hezbollah attacks in Chile, explaining that “any movement of people is always being monitored.”

Posteriorly Chile delivered a note of protest by the statements of the Argentine Minister of Security, a document that was received by Javier Lareo, head of the Chancellery of the Argentine Embassy in Chile.
