An epic sports day was experienced on a sunny morning today, with waves that reached up to six meters high. The famous break of the “Gringo”, or “Flopos”, as the Ariqueños call it, even caused some inconvenience to the competitors who met in the round of 16.
There were five Chileans competing. The first national runner to jump into the powerful surf was Diego Sepulveda. The ariqueno did not have it easy facing “Flopos”. In front of him was the current world champion, and champion of the previous stage of the tour held in Antofagasta, Tristan Roberts from South Africa.
In addition to the rival’s level, Sepúlveda had the misfortune of receiving a set of giant waves on top of him, a situation that made him lose time, and, finally, being left out of the contest.

The Chilean connected a perfect maneuver, entering the tube, (inside the wave), in addition to a series of combinations of other tricks that allowed him to win with 15.9 points, versus the 4.50 that the European added.
In the penultimate confrontation, when the waves grew more and more, the Iquiqueño Juan Fiscer suffered the ravages of the “Gringo”, after a wave of about 5 meters high fell on his head, it was difficult for him to return to the competition. Situation that the current ACB champion Amaury Laverne from France took advantage of to win, adding 11 against 6.75 for the Chilean.
In the final dispute, the enormous figure of Sacha Damjanic from Antofagasta emerged. Because despite the fact that he lived through a complex moment, after also receiving a wave of about 6 meters on top of him, he managed the task just as well, doubling his opponent Gabriel Braga in score, adding 12.50 against 6.50 for the Brazilian runner.
