A new strain of Covid-19, codenamed ARIS (EG 5.1), has been discovered in the UK. Currently, the disease is spreading rapidly in England, according to the Ministry of Health in England. One in seven reported cases of Covid-19 in the UK are now due to Aries. 5.4% of the 4,396 respiratory secretions that reached the UK’s Respiratory Datamart system were found to contain Covid-19. Earlier, only 3.7 percent of the 4403 secretions had the presence of Covid.

The EG5 category is also on the list of Covid variants monitored by the World Health Organization. XBB1.5, XBB1.16, BA2.75, CH1.1, XBB, XBB1.9.1, XBB1.9.2 , and XBB2.3 are the other variants under observation. This variant is currently reported to be found in 45 countries. Symptoms include cold, headache and fever.

The media had pointed out that the release of films in theaters has led to an increase in Covid cases. Other causes are bad weather and reduced immunity. Preventive measures include keeping hands clean and getting tested immediately if symptoms are present. The media also reported that there has been a ten percent increase in hospital admissions due to Covid since last December in the United States.
