Arkansas Razorbacks Softball: No. 17 Arkansas Falls to No. 20 Mississippi State in Series Opener at Bogle Park

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 17 Arkansas dropped its series opener, 6-3, to No. 20 Mississippi State Friday night at Bogle Park.

Mississippi State overcame a two-run deficit and plated six unanswered runs across the game’s final three innings.

Arkansas falls to 23-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. RHP Morgan Leinstock (6-1) suffered her first loss of the season. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product surrendered six runs (four earned) on 10 hits across 6.1 frames. Leinstock fanned four batters and threw four scoreless innings before giving up a run in the fifth. The Razorback defense committed two errors Friday night.

The Razorbacks were curbed to three hits on the night. Hannah Gammill led Arkansas with three RBI after smothering a three-run home run in the fourth. Reagan Johnson and Nia Carter chipped in a hit apiece.

After three scoreless innings, Johnson and Carter led the fourth off with back-to-back singles. Mississippi State retired the next two before Hannah Gammill bombed a two-out, three-run home run to right center for a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs trimmed Arkansas’ lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single. Mississippi State added another run in the sixth on an errant throw to cut the Hogs’ lead to 3-2. The Bulldogs then added four runs, three of which are unearned, in the top of the seventh to capture a 6-3 advantage. Arkansas was retired in order in the bottom half.

Arkansas looks to even the series at 2 p.m. CT Saturday on SEC Network+. The series finale between the Razorbacks and Bulldogs is set for Noon Sunday on SEC Network+.
