We expected it a little, but the news finally fell. The new ArmA, the so-called ArmA Reforger, has just been made official… And a little last-minute surprise: it is already playable.
Towards a new identity for the saga
For a few hours now, many leaks hinted at the arrival of a certain ArmA Reforger. Today, the title was made official. Indeed, it was during the Enfusion Showcase, an event dedicated to the brand new Enfusion Engine, that ArmA Reforger deigned to point the tip of its nose. And as you can see by watching the first trailer available above, the title obviously uses this brand new engine shaped by Bohemia Interactive. The objective here is to bring a nice facelift to a series that needed it by offering more detailed and realistic visuals; an artistic direction that notably highlights the violence of the Cold War confrontations.
In Arma Reforger, you must achieve supremacy on a 51 km2 island, with incredible topography and terrain. Thanks to its new Enfusion engine, you will find the authenticity of the Cold War. (…) Rediscover familiar locations from ArmA: Cold War Assault and let yourself be carried away by the natural beauty of a breathtaking gigantic open world: pine forests or deciduous forests, rivers, ponds, idyllic towns and austere mountains, all surrounded by pebble beaches and rugged coastlines.
Moreover, to reinforce this realistic aspect, ArmA Reforger also includes a day/night cycle as well as dynamic weather, but that’s not all. This new episode – described as the first step towards ArmA 4 – also displays a new mentality. Compared to its ancestors who were defined as military simulations, the new production is more accessible and more fun too, in order to reach a wider audience. It is for this reason that it is entering consoles, and more specifically Xbox Series X|S as a temporary console exclusive.
A little surprise!
A little surprise awaits fans of the video game saga, since ArmA Reforger is already available in its Early Access version on Steam, but also on Xbox Series X|S via the Game Preview program. Everything is sold at € 29.99 and is even playable for free thanks to a free trial version.
This Early Access offers players two game modes: Conflict and Game Master. The first looks more or less like a “Capture Zone”, but on a very large scale map and the second looks like a gigantic sandbox. It allows players to create their own missions, just that.
