Armand “Mondo” Duplantis world champion by beating his world record

It was the only major title that was missing from his list. World record holder and Olympic champion, Mondo Duplantis became world champion for the first time on Sunday, and with style, since he simply broke his world record, raised to 6.21 m! He had only one real scare at 5.87m, bar passed on the second try, and was even guaranteed to be crowned following crossing 6 meters. The American Chris Nilsen (5.94m) and the Filipino Ernest John Obiena (5.94m) complete the podium.

For his part, Renaud Lavillenie took fifth place in a very tough competition. The 2012 Olympic champion cleared 5.70m then skipped 5.80m. He then passed 5.87m, his best performance of the season, on the second try, and came close to passing 5.94m on two of his tries.
