Armed Carjacking Captured on Dan Ryan Freeway – NBC Chicago

CHICAGO – A witness caught on camera a man armed with a rifle walking on the Dan Ryan Expressway with the goal of stealing a car.

The shocking images were recorded by a driver who said that, minutes before the robbery, he saw a crashed car on the road, then saw a group of people leaving it, including the alleged criminal.

“I thought they were injured or that they were going to check the other car that was crashed or that they crashed, but no, they were just trying to get another car,” the witness told Telemundo Chicago.

The video shows how a man dressed in black, who appears to have a gun, walks down the road supposedly offering money for someone to give him a ride.

“He looked very comfortable doing that. Like it was a normal day at work. The amount of money that he had seems to be about 10 or 20 thousand dollars, ”said the witness.

After that, the car was stolen and the suspect flees in it. According to the Illinois State Police report, this happened shortly before 9:30 am on October 14 when an accident involving two stolen cars was reported.

The report added that the victim’s vehicle was found abandoned hours later.

On social networks, the video has gone viral and many have questioned why the witness did not do more to intervene. “I’m thankful no one got in his way because who knows what would have happened,” the witness said.

This robbery is an example of the problems that the authorities face. Last year alone, there were more than 2,000 such incidents in Cook County.

Sheriff Tom Dart’s office is expected to hold a news conference on Thursday to unveil a plan that includes encouraging vehicle manufacturers and drivers to authorize authorities to track their cars in the event of a theft.
