A Belgian magistrate, wanted by the courts of his country, was arrested on Tuesday in Paris and placed in detention, AFP learned from a judicial source, confirming information from Europe 1.
“A Belgian national, magistrate of the Belgian judicial order, was arrested today in Paris and placed in judicial detention, in execution of two European arrest warrants issued by the Belgian judicial authorities.“, confirmed the judicial source.
“It will be presented on Wednesday to the general prosecutor’s office in Paris“to be notified of the arrest warrants of which he is the subject before appearing later before the investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal, responsible for extraditions.
According to Europe 1, this magistrate was arrested “in a hotel in the 6th arrondissement of Paris“.
The Belgian authorities on “suspect of fraud (…) committed in his capacity as magistrate“, “money laundering and extortion“and already have it”sentenced to five years in prison for fraud and breach of trustin 2012, according to the radio.
