A person suspected of being involved in the terrorist attack committed on October 16 in Brussels was arrested in Spain, Spanish police said on Friday. Two people of Swedish origin were killed and another was injured in this gun attack, perpetrated by Abdesalem Lassoued. The latter was killed by police shooting the day after the incident.
“National police agents arrested in Benahavís”, in the province of Málaga (southern Spain), “a person for his involvement in the jihadist attack of October 16 in Belgium” and who was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Belgian authorities, Spanish police said in a statement on Friday. This is an arrest warrant for a man for drug trafficking, arms trafficking, money laundering and membership in a criminal organization.
According to Spanish police, the suspect and Abdesalem Lassoued are both involved in “activities linked to organized crime”. She did not specify to what extent this man would be linked to the terrorist attack.

The individual was hiding in Benahavís under a false identity. The police searched his home and seized documents, electronic devices and a large sum of money. “Investigators are examining all of these elements to determine exactly what connection there is between the two people,” Spanish police said.
The investigation is being carried out by the Spanish National Prosecutor’s Office, responsible for the most serious crimes. The suspect appeared before an investigating judge on Friday, who decided to place him under arrest warrant.

The terrorist attack which took place on October 16 at Place Sainctelette, in the center of Brussels, left two Swedish football fans dead and one seriously injured. The perpetrator, Abdesalem Lassoued, was shot dead by the police the next morning in Schaerbeek.
