Arrests and drug seizures during a security operation

A security operation by the gendarmerie led to the arrest of 28 individuals, including 10 for possession of Indian hemp and 1 for selling drugs (ecstasy).

The national gendarmerie, in a context marked by the increase in drug trafficking, carried out a series of patrols on April 16 and 17, 2024. According to the Gendarmerie’s communications services, the results of the operation are 28 people arrested by the Ouakam brigade and the Kaolack search brigade, including 11 for possession and trafficking of drugs (Indian hemp, ecstasy).

The police seized 99 cones of Indian hemp, 14 tablets (ecstasy), 2 motorcycles, 3 scissors and the sum of 12,000 FCFA during the two days of patrol.

The gendarmerie informs that ecstasy influences brain chemistry by releasing in particular a high quantity of serotonin, a chemical substance present in the brain, which plays an important role in the regulation of mood, energy and appetite.
