Three men were arrested after kidnapping a child last Thursday around 9 p.m., the Brussels prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. The police in the AMOW area (Asse, Merchtem, Opwijk and Wemmel) were contacted by the child’s father. The latter was released by his captors in Asse while the alleged perpetrators were arrested in Anderlecht.
“The father of the kidnapped minor and the police had contact with the kidnappers several times after the kidnapping“, said the prosecution. “The latter would have informed them, after a few hours, that they were going to release the minor around Asse. Shortly afterwards, the police received a notification from a local resident that a young man had been found in Asse. It turned out to be the kidnapped minor. During the kidnapping, the minor was allegedly beaten several times“, he added.
“The police managed to identify and locate the kidnappers’ vehicle that same evening. He was driving in Anderlecht and allegedly fled after the police asked him to stop. The police received reinforcements and finally managed to stop the perpetrators’ vehicle. Three men were on board. They were all deprived of their liberty and questioned. The vehicle was seized along with a cell phone found in the car“, further indicated the Brussels prosecutor’s office.
The three suspects were placed under arrest warrant for intentional assault and battery on a minor, illegal and arbitrary detention, hostage taking, verbal threat with order or condition and robbery with violence or threats, in a gang, with a weapon and vehicle.
Their detention has already been extended by one month by the council chamber and the investigation continues.
