Kochi ∙ 5 SFI activists were arrested in the incident where a private bus was stopped in front of Maharaja’s College and the employee was beaten up. AR Anandu, Hashim, Saravanan, Shihab and Mohammad Afrid were arrested. Sunday’s attack was a continuation of the dispute over the student concession two weeks ago.

SFI alleges that the conductor who was beaten used to misbehave with students without giving concessions. The attack was on ‘Sarathy’ bus conductor Jeff on the Chotanikara – Aluva route. In the afternoon, the bus was stopped in front of the college by the SFIs. He then dragged the conductor from the bus and slapped him on the face and brutally assaulted him. The problems started two weeks ago.

Four students demanded bus concession after 6 am. The bus staff said that the concession time is from 7 o’clock and they want the full amount of the ticket. Then there was an argument between the two groups. A complaint was lodged against the bus staff and a case was registered. Bus employees say that the attack is a continuation of these incidents. Geffin said he had not worked for a week and a half following threats from SFI activists.
