More than twenty vehicles were devastated in two arson attacks that occurred overnight from Monday to Tuesday in the borough of Lachine, in Montreal.

The two fires declared in a close time interval were caused in two nearby places located in an industrial sector.

The first fire, which broke out around 12:40 a.m., set about 20 vehicles on fire in the courtyard of a business on rue Jean-Baptiste-Deschamps, near 32nd Avenue.

Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department were able to control the large fire, but the damage was significant and the vehicles declared a total loss.

Shortly after 2 a.m., the police were alerted to another fire that targeted several vehicles in the parking lot of a business located on Pacific Avenue, not far from Victoria Street.

According to initial information, at least four vehicles as well as the building were affected by the flames, but the extent of the damage is not known.

In both cases, no one was injured, said Montreal Police Department spokeswoman Jeanne Drouin, adding that no suspects have been arrested yet.

The two scenes were protected by a security perimeter, pending investigators from the SPVM arson section, who are expected to travel during the day.

As a reminder, on November 4, several vehicles targeted by arson had burned down in the parking lot of the same business on Pacific Avenue.
