TASS, April 13. The National Hockey League (NHL) New York Rangers beat the New York Islanders in a regular season home game after a shootout.
Regular time and overtime ended with the score 2:2. Braden Schneider (25th minute) and Artemiy Panarin (56 minutes) scored goals for the winners; Brock Nelson scored twice for the losers (32, 40). Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped 33 of 35 shots, and in the third period he prevented opposing defenseman Adam Pelek from making a free throw. Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 41 of 43 saves. The Rangers won the shootout 2-0, with Panarin scoring the winning shot.
At the end of the meeting, Shesterkin was recognized as the first star, Panarin as the second, and Sorokin as the third.
Panarin extended his scoring streak to 12 matches. The forward scored his 779th point (264 goals + 515 assists) in the NHL regular championships and was equal in this indicator to Pavel Bure (779; 437+342).
