Artificial mini-lungs allow further study of pneumococcus | Society | America Edition

A team of researchers has created artificial mini-lungs that mimic the activity of real lungs to delve into the study of pneumococcus, the bacterium responsible for numerous diseases, such as pneumonia or meningitis.

It has been achieved by scientists from the Functional Unit for Chronic Disease Research and the National Center for Microbiology of the Carlos III Health Institute, from various Network Biomedical Research Centers (CIBER) and from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, and have published the results of their work in the journal Microbiology Spectrum.
