[ARTIGO] Turning the tables: ultra-efficient air conditioning contributes to economical, conscious and sustainable use

The hottest seasons of the year in the first quarter of 2024 are causing the demand for air conditioning units to increase. The movement, however, has always raised a warning signal for everyone committed to preserving the environment and seeking solutions for an increasingly sustainable and conscious use of essential resources – this is because, for a long time, the air conditioner remained in the consumer’s imagination as an expensive and “wasteful” product, responsible for a considerable increase in the value of the electricity bill.

Fortunately, the evolution of technology and the accountability of all players involved in this segment have made a true domestic revolution possible: thermal comfort without anyone – be it the consumer or nature – paying extra for it. Efficient in terms of energy consumption, modern air conditioning incorporates features that continue to be improved, version after version, such as frequency inverters – the famous Inverter technology, which allows the temperature to be maintained without the need to turn the mechanism on and off. at all times – in addition to the features that make them resistant to power spikes, withstanding network fluctuations, and intelligent monitoring and control systems, which show the equipment’s energy consumption in real time in both kilowatts and reais.

These functions allow, in addition to remote or programmed activation, much more precise and economical air conditioning. The energy efficiency of new appliances not only reduces costs for consumers, but also contributes to the conservation of natural resources and the reduction of carbon emissions into the atmosphere – largely due to the use of the latest generation R32 refrigerant gas in new lines specific refrigerants, which has a low impact on global warming and helps reduce the greenhouse effect compared to other conventional refrigerants.

It is worth remembering that the joint efforts of civil society with regulatory bodies (both in Brazil and international entities) also play their part in this story. Inmetro’s new energy efficiency indexes, for example, which are valid since January 1, 2023 for all air conditioning units manufactured in Brazil or imported, were stipulated to provide a clearer and easier view for users regarding the level of product efficiency and thus forcing manufacturers to adapt.

Companies that strictly comply with their ESG goals and were more attentive to consumer demands, however, already had a complete portfolio of devices (or a large part of it) with a score of 6 or more in the efficiency index, that is, exceeding the minimum of 5.5 for the maximum A rating, even before the new measures come into force. Even though products with the old labeling will still be sold until June 2024, our most recent products, for example, already have index 9, that is, they have the great advantage of having been designed to weigh less on people’s pockets.

However, it is essential that this awareness about responsible energy consumption goes beyond benefits and personal comfort. Choosing air conditioning units with energy-efficient technologies, with superior functions and levels of technology and intelligence, is a tangible way to contribute to the preservation of natural resources and reduce stress on the planet.
