ARTP Report: Decline in Postal Sector Jobs and Investments in 2022 Despite Rising Turnover – Senegal

Saly, Jan 17 (APS) – The Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARTP) declares having counted 4,807 jobs in the postal sector in 2022, with a drop of 4% compared to the previous year.

”The postal sector recorded 4,807 jobs in 2022, namely 3,329 permanent jobs, 603 temporary jobs and 875 service provider jobs”, indicates a report from the ARTP Postal Sector Observatory devoted to the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 .

”After an increase of 8% between 2020 (4,629) and 2021 (5,014), despite the global pandemic, a drop of 4% in jobs is noted during the year 2022 (4,807)”, observe the authors of the distributed report to participants in an ARTP seminar and the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal, Wednesday, in Saly (west).

The Union of Associative and Community Radios took part in the organization of this seminar which was held since Monday.

The Postal Sector Observatory adds that ”the investments of postal operators are estimated at more than 485,243,865 CFA francs”.

Rising turnover, despite the Covid-19 pandemic

At the end of the 2022 financial year, the report continues, “the investments of postal operators are estimated at more than 485,243,865 CFA francs, an increase of 53.21% compared to the year 2021, where investments were 316,716,709”.

The document indicates that ”turnover has continued to increase, despite the Covid-19 pandemic”.

The turnover of the postal sector was 13 billion 403 million 313 thousand 100 CFA francs in 2020, then 15 billion 566 million 308 thousand 925 in 2021 and 17 billion 145 million 322 thousand 597 in 2022, according to Abdou Khadre Ndiaye, technical advisor to the director of postal regulation at the ARTP.

”In 2022, revenues generated by national parcel shipments of 2 to 20 kilograms are estimated at 380,935,281 CFA francs, a decrease of 14% compared to revenues generated in 2021, which are estimated at 442,313,376” , indicated Mr. Ndiaye while presenting the report on the last day of the seminar.

”For international shipments, revenues amount to 1 billion 618 million 578 thousand 634 CFA francs in 2021 and 2 billion 33 million 636 thousand 434 in 2022, an increase of 87%,” he said. added.

The report estimates the revenue generated in 2021 by national shipments of parcels exceeding 20 kilograms at 270,734,827 CFA francs and at 265,224,000 in 2022, a drop of 2%.

He explains that ”economic indicators for the postal sector often include measures such as the volume of mail processed, revenue generated by postal services, operational costs, profitability, annual growth of the sector, as well as the impact of digital technologies on the postal industry”.
