Asian Equities Rebound: Middle East Conflict & Bangladesh Energy Concerns

by

Asian equity markets experienced a rebound Thursday, recovering from recent volatility triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East. The shift in investor sentiment followed a stark warning from Ayesha Tariq, Co-Founder of Macrovisor, who reported from Dhaka that Bangladesh possesses energy stockpiles sufficient for only two weeks.

Tariq’s assessment, delivered during a discussion with Joumanna Bercetche, anchor of Bloomberg Television’s Horizons Middle East & Africa, underscores the potential for regional energy disruption. Bercetche is reporting live from Dubai throughout the day on the unfolding situation for Bloomberg.

Joumanna Bercetche hosts the flagship morning program Horizons Middle East and Africa, which focuses on business, energy and geopolitical developments across the Middle East and Africa. She has interviewed prominent figures including Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq; HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; HE Mohammed Al-Jadaan, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance; and Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser. Bercetche also served as the host of the 2025 Qatar Economic Forum and moderated panels at events including the World Economic Forum in Davos and Riyadh, the Dubai FinTech Summit, and Abu Dhabi Finance Week.

Prior to joining Bloomberg, Bercetche was an anchor and journalist for CNBC in London, where she covered monetary policy and interviewed policymakers and CEOs. She is Lebanese-British and married to an Argentine national, currently residing in Dubai with her family, according to a post on her Instagram account.
