Assassination attempt on Pakistan’s first transgender journalist An attempt was made on Marwa Malik, a native of Islamabad. According to an international media report, Marwa was attacked by a gang while returning home from a pharmacy near the army camp in Lahore.
Marva, who narrowly escaped the attack, is under the protection of the police. Marwa had revealed that she had received death threats following voicing her views on the Transgender Rights Protection Act enacted by Pakistan in 2018. Marva also demanded police protection as she was receiving threatening messages through phone and mail.
In 2018, Marwa Malik made history as Pakistan’s first transgender news anchor. A few days ago, in an interview given to a private channel, Marva revealed the sufferings of sexual minorities in Pakistan. Marva graduated in Journalism and started her career as a makeup artist.
