Searches carried out near the victim’s home as part of the investigation into the assassination of lawyer Claudia Van Der Stichelen in Hautem-Saint-Liévin were interrupted Thursday midday. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office confirmed that these operations did not lead to any concrete results.

The events took place on October 28 at the lawyer’s home, where a man showed up around 1:15 p.m. and opened fire on the victim and her son. The lawyer died from her injuries while her son was seriously injured.
Searches have already taken place in the vicinity of the victim’s home, notably with the help of the federal police helicopter and divers. The investigations then focused on the search for the murder weapon, the prosecution however limited itself to confirming that the operations were part of the investigation relating to the assassination of Me Van Der Stichelen.

Investigators received support on Thursday from the Missing Persons Unit and the technical assistance team of the navigation police. The stream flowing in the woods near the victim’s home and office was searched but no weapon was found, according to initial information.
The prosecution did not specify whether further research in the context of this investigation will be carried out in the future.
