Announced during the Summer Game Fest, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s free Forgotten Saga DLC recently received a detailed presentation of a few minutes. Ubisoft took the opportunity to reveal the release date of this content, which incorporates some mechanics already present in God of War in 2018.

A trip to Niflheim

Released for the first time in 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has had many additions over the years. In addition to recurring events launched by Ubisoft, the latest installment in the saga has also received several extensions that generously inflate the software’s already long lifespan: Wrath of the Druids, The headquarters of Paris et L’Aube du Ragnarök.

Not content with currently offering a ton of hours of play to its players, Ubisoft will soon be offering a new free DLC. Entitled Forgotten Saga, this additional content presents itself as a Rogue-Lite experience putting Odin to the test.

Taking place in the four worlds of Niflheim (the realm of mist in Norse mythology), Forgotten Saga asks players to explore the nooks and crannies of the map to collect various upgrades and gear. Many opponents are obviously scattered on the map, but that’s not all. During each journey, it is possible to meet NPCs offering several side quests. To complete these quests, you will have to explore each part of the cursed kingdom of Niflheim during your different runs.

Because yes, Forgotten Saga presents itself as a Rogue-Lite experience. The more you advance, the more you collect equipment that allows you to reach new levels of power. Rogue-Lite oblige, every death is final and starts you from scratch. So expect a challenge.

Obviously, when we see the details of Forgotten Saga and the presence of the kingdom of Niflheim, we cannot help but think of God of War which at the time contained a partly similar game system in the world of the mists, but also in Muspelheim. Forgotten Saga nevertheless seems more complete, with a real Rogue-Lite bias rather than simple inspirations.

The festivities begin in August

The good surprise is that this additional content is coming soon, very soon even though Ubisoft intends to offer Forgotten Saga from the beginning of August. Players with Valhalla will be able to find Eivor, or rather Odin in this case, from August 2 to explore Niflheim. As a bonus, the French studio also announces the return of the temporary summer event Sigblot Festival. The opportunity to collect several equipment upgrades such as weapons, armor and a new mount. The festival will take place from August 4th until the end of the month, the 25th to be more precise.
