Asvel confirms having been the victim of a cyber attack

The month of October is definitely delicate for Asvel. The disappointing results, in Betclic Elite (already 3 defeats in 8 days) but especially in the Euroleague (17 consecutive losses since the spring) pushed Tony Parker to dismiss his brother and coach TJ on Friday. If the Villeurbanne president wishes to relaunch his club with the arrival of the recent world champion at the head of the German selection, the Canadian Gordon Herbert, this recruit of choice has not yet been made official.

Alongside this sporting blur, Asvel suffered another hard blow, but this time far from the courts. On October 12, the site Cybernews indeed explained that the club had just been hit by a cyberattack carried out by the NoEscape group. The specialized site then reported 32 gigabytes of stolen data, including the players’ personal data, with their passports, and several confidential financial and contractual documents.

“No payment method was stolen”

According to Cybernews, NoEscape targeted 54 organizations and demanded ransoms reaching several million dollars. Asvel has just published a statement Sunday, in which she explains having been “alerted through the press on October 12”. Tony Parker’s club immediately approached “companies specializing in the field of cybersecurity”. “Asvel is unfortunately today able to confirm that it has indeed been the victim of a violation of its computer system, with exfiltration of data”, indicates this same press release, with a confirmation on October 17, then “the evidence of exfiltration of data collected on October 18.”

“The original data, however, has not been altered or erased,” assures Asvel. They have also been disconnected and benefit from reinforced security measures. » Likewise, there was no “stoppage of activity” linked to this attack suffered, and “no means of payment was stolen” according to the Villeurbanne club. It is obviously now seeking to “strengthen its cyber protection”. Likewise, Asvel announces that it has made “a notification of a personal data violation to the CNIL” and it will “file a complaint with the competent state services”.
