Vienna – The number of asylum applications in Austria continued to decline in July. According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, 5,501 asylum applications were made last month, which means a decrease of 6,041 applications or 52 percent compared to the same period last year. However, in a long-term comparison, the value is still at a very high level, as in July 2019 – i.e. before the corona pandemic – there were only 1,187 applications.
