At least 5 dead in multiple crash in Montana

At least five people were killed in a chain-link crash on Interstate 90 in Montana on Friday, authorities said.

At least 20 vehicles were involved in the crash, and Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Jay Nelson said authorities believe weather was the cause.

“It appears that there were high winds, which caused a dust storm with zero visibility,” he said.

Governor Greg Gianforte said on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the news of a mass casualty accident near Hardin.”

Although the highway patrol did not have an immediate count of the number of injuries, Nelson said they had to call more ambulances from Billings to help.

KTVA reported that the incident occurred 5 kilometers (3 miles) west of Hardin.

Nelson told MTN News that the incident was reported around 4:30 p.m.

Neither Nelson nor other Highway Patrol spokesmen immediately responded to AP requests for comment.
